Meadowland Beagles Behavior Tips
For A Healthier, Happier Life

Introduction by Shirley Irwin

The Beagle in General

Meadowland Beagles understands the bond that a human and canine companion must have to ensure a happy, loving life together for many memorable years. It is up to we as breeders to inform interested beagle buyers with as much knowledge of the breed and its habits and characteristics as we possibly can. One beagle can vary from another in respective of learning capabilities and desirable or undesirable habits. The National Pediatric Association has rated the Beagle as the number one dog for children. Beagles are basically a "wash-and-wear" dog that are hardy little hounds and can take a little roughhousing. Their main problems are obesity and ear infections. Your vet can steer you in the right direction with that part of taking care of your beagle.

Beagles come in two varieties – not over 13 inches and not over 15 inches. They come in various true hound colors, the most common being black, tan and white and red and white. Being socialized at a young age and petted and stroked at infancy gives a bond to you and the dog right away, as well as being brought up indoors and not in an isolated kennel without socialization and attention. Pups need that touch therapy and soothing words to develop into a well-mannered polite dog.

Never go to a pet store and always go to a responsible breeder who will spend time on the phone to answer your questions no matter when. Breeders who breed no more than 3 litters a year are the most responsible, only receiving blue ribbons for the hard dedicated work they put into their breeding program to better the breed.
